Welcome To Zoology

INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT:
The S. B. V. P. Samaj’s Sahakarmaharshi bhausaheb santuji thorat college of art’s Science and Commeres was establish in 1990. The Zoology dept. is established at the same time and started the educating the first year students. The first graduation batch came out in 1992. It is the one of the best department in science faculty. Currently 1 permanent 5 C.H.B and 2 full time , faculties are serving for the department. The faculties are having good academic records also having good research aptitude.
ZOOLOGY:
Zoology is the branch of life science deals with the study of animals.
Zoology, a complex science with number of problems yet to solve, is a challenge to an enquiring mind. There are other motives for Zoological study also.
Zoology is a subject that offers the basic understanding about animals & microorganisms as living resources of Mother Earth and the abiotic factors related to these living beings. It includes the interaction of animal & microorganism in their ecosystem such as classification, habits, structure, embryology, distribution, evolution etc. It also describes the biotic world’s structure, function (physical, physiological, metabolic and biochemical), ecology and socio-economic aspects. As per New Educational Policy this Course takes the students through the fascinating world of various techniques and technologies used to study the multifaceted aspects of life. The course includes Entomology, Molecular Biology Cell Biology, Animal Diversity; Applied Zoology Animal Ecology, Pest Management, Paras itology, Genetics, Medical & Forensic Zoology Evolutionary biology, Embryology and General Histology, Poultry & Aquarium Management, Fresh Water Zoology, Biochemistry, Research Methodology, all of which enable the students to strengthen their knowledge in respective branches and understand the scope of the subject as an employment opportunity. The syllabus is designed to inculcate interest in the minds of the students for nature and natural wealth. It would help them to develop skills for data observation and data analysis, thus preparing them for future research endeavors.
Vision
• To inculcate the core values of life, science education, respect for nature and concern for ethical values among students by developing scientific attitude.
Mission
• Department aims to bring about an awareness regarding nature and biodiversity and to solve different problems to establish sound and peaceful environment.
• Department starves to inculcate high moral values, professionalism and broad communication skills in the students and making them valuable addition to the society.
• Department aims to provide a conducive environment teaching-learning process through innovative practices& research activities.
• The overarching goal of the Department of Zoology is enabling students through contextual learning and analytical skills to cope with the contemporary challenges in the field of zoology.
OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT:
• To provide quality education in offering skills based programs and motivate the students for self employment in applied branches in Zoology.
• To provide students familiarity with animal classification schemes and associated taxonomic group diagnostic characteristics as well as to develop an understanding and ability to apply basic zoological principles.
• To equip students with adequate practical knowledge that will enable them be self-reliant and pioneers in the field of Poultry Management, aquarium maintenance, sericulture and Pest management.
• To focus on emerging research problems relevant to national and global environment.
• To provide a wide comprehension in major fields of zoology including core, elective and special courses by designing and persistently updating the curricula.
• To develop vibrant and sound teaching system based on the experience and vision gathered from world reviews, literature, innovations, proceedings, symposia etc
• To established well-equipped teaching and research laboratories depending on the available resources, maintaining a high level of scientific excellence in teaching, research, thesis.
