About N.S.S.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) has been introduced at Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune since 1969 and since then N.S.S. has been functioning as a regular feature in the realm of education. It is a student-centered program. The total enrolment capacity is 250, both girls and boys are enrolled in N.S.S. in every academic year. They are expected to engage themselves in social work for not less than 120 hours in the regular N.S.S. activities during the academic year. They are also required to attend the 7-day annual special camp organized by the N.S.S. unit.
The scheme provides a good opportunity for students to develop the spirit of service to society, qualities of leadership, personality development, initiative, and dedication to a social cause. Students with an inclination for social work are welcome to join the N.S.S.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) has been playing a vital role in enriching the souls and minds of the students of the Colleges for a long time. The overall objective of this scheme is ‘Education and Service’ to the community and by the community. The students joining this scheme develop many behavioral interactive skills. They visit the rural areas as N.S.S. volunteers during the camps organized by the concerned colleges. The N.S.S. volunteers take initiative in developing a Technocratic Environment and also help the underprivileged people to develop themselves. The scheme promotes the ability to present them in a better way. Thus, the ultimate goal of the scheme is to strive to inculcate the bond of national integration, brotherhood, communal harmony among these volunteers.
Motto
"Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. N.S.S. helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the N.S.S. is well doctrine in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare. of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the N.S.S. volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
Aim and Objective
1. Understand the community in which they work.
2. Understand themselves in the relation to their community.
3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in Problem solving process.
4. Develop among themselves a scene of social and civic responsibility.
5. Utilize their knowledge in finding partial solutions to individual and community problems.
6. Gain Skills in mobilizing community participation
